Dentist OKC: February 2017 & Dental Health
The month of February is known by the American Dental Association and the ADA Foundation as National Children’s Dental Health Month. In this month we, at Bluff Creek Dental, recognize the importance of promoting good oral health to children, their caregivers, teachers, and many others. Of course, our dentist in OKC encourages healthy oral hygiene all year long, but bringing awareness to this year’s slogan is something we advocate.
This year the campaign will be running with the slogan “Choose Tap Water for a Sparkling Smile.” Additionally, the message “I love tap water” will be displayed on the posters with emoji symbols. This campaign speaks, of course, more closely to those living in cities with fluoride in the water as the fluoride is said to help with maintaining healthy teeth. Some cities around OKC, like Edmond do not currently fluoridate their water supply, but the surrounding areas in the Metro do have fluoride in their water and it’s considered a good thing.
In fact, it’s documented that more than 70 years of scientific research has consistently shown that an optimal level of fluoride in community water is safe and effective in preventing tooth decay by at least 25% in both children and adults. Thus, our dentist in OKC agrees that if you live in an area where fluoride is part of your tap water, drink it! Of course, you can have a filter if you’re worried about other elements being in the water.
In addition to drinking tap water with fluoride in it, our dentist in OKC recommends maintaining a solid routine with brushing, flossing, and rinsing. Aside from the basics, routine teeth cleanings are another great way to keep your smile looking bright. Our dentist in OKC cares about helping children and families have the best oral health possible, so if you would like to make an appointment or you have any questions, please click here.
